Walk Out and Play
Žilvinas Lilas
On 14-15 Juni 2010 MigAA-Deutschkreis staged a semi-spontaneous post-Royan re-union.
In tune with MigAA’s spirit and as part of Lab.D’s (labd.khm.de) series of workshops on socially embedded playable systems and with the creative guidance by Tom Russotti (www.aesthletics.org), MigAA-DE group held a “walk out and play” action in Cologne. Driven by passion to ignite public spaces and turn them into vibrant creative and open context, for two days we developed scenarios of engagement and conducted number of performative collective acts in the outdoor public setting.
Our attempts led to a development of such performative plays as “Kölle-bolle” a type of ball-and-arm intervention in Cologne city center, “Duckling” an improvisation on curling, horse-riding and hunting with the bathtub rubber duck spear as one of the key components of the game. Also, we developed a rapid photo diary technique addressing time and place narratives of the city.
It was great fun and we wish all MigAA team could take part in our creative festivities!
